A drinking card game I dreamed up, designed, and brought to life. I created 52 unique illustrated cards, custom card backs, and packaging, then partnered with a manufacturer to turn the designs into a real, playable product.

How do you turn an idea for a drinking game into a fully designed, professionally manufactured product?

With no prior graphic design experience or working with manufacturers, I set out to create a cohesive, entertaining card game from scratch. The challenge was to develop 52 unique card designs, establish a consistent visual identity, and figure out how to bring the finished product from the screen into the real world.

Solution

I took Are You As Sober As a 5th Grader? from an idea to a fully manufactured card game, handling everything from the visual design to sourcing a production partner.

  • 52 Unique Cards: Illustrated each card in Adobe Illustrator, combining playful graphics, typography, and humor to give every card its own personality.

  • Cohesive Visual Identity: Designed custom card backs and packaging to bring the entire deck together as one recognizable product.

  • Manufacturing & Production: Sourced a manufacturer through Alibaba and coordinated the production of the physical deck, turning digital artwork into a finished, playable product.

Impact

What started as a fun idea became a professionally manufactured card game that I could actually hold, share, and play. Beyond the finished product, this project gave me firsthand experience taking an idea through design and production, navigating unfamiliar processes, and figuring things out along the way. It reinforced something I've carried into every project since: you don't need to know how to do something before deciding to give it a shot.
